A common problem with a GPRS credit card terminal is the connection with a venue or location. Please use the following steps to ensure the card terminal is displaying the correct information on screen before attempting to use the device.

  • Please ensure the card machine displays GPRS on the screen.
  • Ensure network bars are displayed on the screen and check the amount of bars available (5 being extremely good).
  • Most importantly, ensure the card terminal displays a network (Orange, EE, T-Mobile, O2, Vodafone or Datasim). If the network is not displayed the card machine will NOT connect.

A key feature when using the card machine is the End of Day banking. This will provide a figure for the day’s takings. Please see below the steps to follow to complete the End of Day banking and a brief description on what each process allows:

X Balance – An X read can be performed at any point during the day and will give you a total of the card transactions taken at that point in the day. This can be performed as many times as necessary without the terminal clearing the transactions.

Z Balance – A Z read is generally performed at the end of day trading and will provide a transaction total print and reset the terminal.

End of Day – An End of Day report is performed at the end of day trading and will provide a Z Report and End of Day report. The terminal will be reset and clear all transactions from the device, meaning the terminal will be ready for the next day of trading.

At the end of each day either a Z Balance or End of Day report must be completed. This will ensure you receive a full transaction report for that specific business day and means the transactions taken will enter the account on the agreed settlement date with your merchant acquirer. If you do not complete this process, the funds will be delayed entering the account. Please note, an End of Day report needs to be completed if any voided transactions have been taken as this will make contact with the merchant acquirer to advise.

Please see below the process for reporting screen:

On the ready screen:

  • Press Menu x 2
  • Press F1 reports
  • Enter the terminal password (please refer to handbook).
  • Please select the chosen report from the terminal.

Frequently asked questions when performing reports are mentioned below:

Totals Confirmed – The totals supplied by the terminal match what have been received with the merchant acquirer.

Totals Not Agreed – The code is displayed if the total held by the Chip and PIN terminal and the acquirer do NOT agree. The report will detail the separate differences between the acquirer and the terminal. Please contact your merchant provider to ensure that all transactions have been received by the acquirer.

Cannot Confirm Totals – This code will be displayed when the terminal cannot connect to the acquirer to check the totals. A specific diagnostic code will be printed on the receipt highlighting the reason for the failed connection. Please speak to a WTS advisor and the technical team in the first instance who will be able to provide support relating to this.

Stored Transactions – A stored transaction report can be printed, advising on how many transactions are stored on any one card terminal. A maximum of 5 transactions can be stored on the card machine (per merchant acquirer.) Before completing the stored transaction report, please call a member of the Wireless Terminal Solutions team for more information on completing this process.
